Jonathan’s Stay in South Africa *Update*
I’m not very keen on posting rumours but I get a lot of e-mails every day with the same question: “Why is Jonathan in South Africa?” According to Heat magazine, Jonny is in rehab. He’s currently being treated at Monrose Place in Cape Town. I can’t confirm it 100%, though. If it’s true then good luck, Jonathan! You will make it. ![]()

According to iftn.ie, Wildfire Films’ comedy series, ‘An Crisis’, and ‘World 2000’s historical drama ‘The Tudors’ have received six and three Golden Nymph nominations respectively at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival 2010. The Tudors 4 – first episode ratings!
The final season of Showtime’s historical romp, The Tudors, kicked off on Sunday night with its highest audience ever. The final season of the drama, starring Jonathan Rhys-Meyers as the tyran King, will chronicle the final years of Henry VIII’s reign and marriages to Catherine Howard and Catherine Parr. According to ratings for Sunday night’s opening episode ratings for The Tudors climbed to 1.1 million viewers – its best audience yet. When The Tudors bows out later this year Showtime will replace it with The Borgias; a renaissance based drama revolving around the notorious Italian family and starring Jeremy Irons. Jonny will be “glad to say goodbye” to Tudors
It was announced last year that the fourth and final season will go out this April and will feature King Henry VIII’s last two marriages and the last few years of his life. Rhys Meyers, 32, has played the role of the British monarch since the start of the show in 2007. He said: “I’m glad to say goodbye. It’s nice to say goodbye to things. It’s funny, I made a movie with Anthony Hopkins 10 years ago and he said one of his favourite parts of making films was going on to the next thing. “It’s like the death of one thing but the beginning of another. I had the best time doing the series and Henry was one of the best parts I’ve ever played.” Rhys Meyers defended the show’s sex scenes and the decision to keep the King as hunky and attractive. He told Parade magazine: “He was a lot heavier and taller than I am, but so what? I think I’d have been stupid to put on a fat suit and I wasn’t about to gain a lot of weight.” And he added: “Some people think we’ve overdone it [the sex scenes], but they were much more sexually gregarious in the 15th century than we are today. Sex was very, very important. It’s what you did when the sun went down. So we couldn’t leave out the scenes of passion.”
P.S. Read an interesting article about The Tudors season 4 posted on LA Times.
Meet the cast of The Tudors 4
From usatoday.com: The fourth and final season of Showtime’s The Tudors kicks off on Sunday at 9 pm ET/PT.
King Henry VIII (Jonathan Rhys Meyers)
For three seasons, Rhys Meyers, whose impeccable portrayal of another late king, Elvis Presley, earned him a Golden Globe for best actor in a miniseries in 2006, has reigned surpreme as one of England’s most notorious monarchs in The Tudors. Casting the gorgeous Irish actor wasn’t just a Hollywood twist, either. As a young monarch, Henry VIII was known as a prince of the Renaissance. He was athletic, beautiful and a lover of arts and music (and women). As Henry rounds the corner into the final season, we see an ailing, overweight tyrant whose menace knows no bounds.
Julianne Moore praises her co-star J. Rhys Meyers
Julianne Moore has declared her co-star Jonathan Rhys Meyers “tremendous” for portraying a character with multiple personalities in new thriller Shelter. The actress stars as a psychiatrist who takes on a new patient, played by Jonathan, before discovering all his multiple personalities are murder victims. Julianne said: “Jonathan’s… character’s got these multiple personalities and so he’s been responsible for all these different characters and it’s so challenging.” She added: “I think his work has just been wonderful and he’s been serious and fun and has just done some really terrific and interesting and surprising work. He’s been lovely.” Shelter is out in cinemas on April 9.
