Jonathan Rhys Meyers is in negotiations to join the cast of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, an adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s YA fantasy novel from Constantin Film and Unique Pictures. Rhys Meyers will play Valentine Morgenstern, described as a powerful but insane Shadowhunter looking to make the world pure at any cost
Hope we find out more information soon. Loving all of the positivity from fans of the book from all over the internet about Jonathan being cast as Valentine.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers has joined the cast of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter.
The “The Tudors” star is in talks to play the part of the main villain, Valentine Morgenstern, a “powerful but insane” Shadowhunter who’s known to have extremist views. That’s about as vague as the description gets without delving into spoiler-territory. Should things work out with negotiations, the Irish actor joins Lily Collins as Clary Fray, Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace Wayland, Robert Sheehan as Simon Lewis, Jemima West as Isabelle Lightwood, Kevin Durand as Emil Pangborn, Robert Maillet as Samuel Blackwell, Lena Headey as Jocelyn Fray, Jared Harris as Hodge Starkweather and Godfrey Gao as Magnus Bane who are among the cast of the film
“The Mortal Instruments” is a series of six young adult fantasy books written by Cassandra Clare and published by Simon & Schuster/Margaret K. McElderry Books. In the series’ first book, the #1 New York Times bestseller “City of Bones,” set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray, discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.
There’s a dark sort of broodiness in Jonathan Rhys Meyers that I expect will lend itself nicely to a role like this. The same could definitely be said for the Dracula series he’s set to star in for NBC. Assuming this becomes official, it’s another great bit of casting for the film.
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is targeting an August 23, 2013 release

Production will commence for the show in late 2012 and it has been confirmed that 10 episodes have been commissioned. NBC bosses said Dracula – set in the Victorian era – will stay true to the classic story’s time period, but with a “look to the future”.
“According to the Hollywood Reporter, it will be set in London in the 1890s, and see Dracula lead a double life as an American businessman interested in bringing modern science to Victorian society. However, his plan to exact revenge on those who ruined his life centuries earlier is derailed when he falls in love. Based on a script by Cole Haddon, it will be co-produced by Gareth Neame who was responsible for ITV1’s hit period drama Downton Abbey. It is not yet known when Dracula will air on US television, but NBC said production will begin later this year. Entertainment chairman at NBC, Bob Greenblatt, who was involved in casting Rhys Meyers as King Henry VIII in the historical drama, The Tudors, said the new series would bring a Tudors sensibility to a piece of classic literature.”
Michael Edelstein, President, NBCUniversal International Television Production, said: “We are delighted that Jonathan Rhys Meyers has chosen this project to return to television and have built an amazing team of producers behind the camera to deliver this extraordinary show. Since 1897, the story of Dracula has captivated readers and viewers alike and this sexy, updated twist on the classic also promises not to disappoint.”
According to The Clicker additional castings and production details will be announced at a later date.
I cannot literally wait!!
