I was informed earlier by Cassandra Clare that as far as she is aware Jonathan is not due to arrive on the set in Toronto until October and that she will let me know for definite as soon as she knows for certain herself.
The film started filming on Monday August 20th but the only people who I know are definitely on set are Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Robert Sheehan and Kevin Zegers. Jonathan is definitely not there :]
All of you lucky people who live in Utah will hopefully be able to hear an interview with Jonathan on Monday August 20th at 7:10am on Morning FM B98.7 with Todd & Erin – be sure to tune in just in case as it has only been mentioned via the radios Twitter page.
For those of us who live in the UK the interview will be taking place at 2pm GMT. This is the website here but it doesn’t look as though we will be able to listen to his interview outside the US. Hopefully some kind individual will upload it to YouTube or something :]
Cassandra Clare, the author of Mortal Instruments has OFFICIALLY confirmed that Jonathan has joined the cast as Valentine Morgenstern
I’ve liked JRM since he was in Velvet Goldmine and I have to admit that image was what sprang immediately to mind when the producer called me and said “…Jonathan Rhys Meyers?” I was like, “Velvet Goldmine!” I should probably also mention that he was great in Match Point and Bend it Like Beckham and lots of my other favorite movies. So, in sum: Ireland, we have cleaned you out of your hot men. Sorry about that. You can have them back in three months when they’re done filming
You can find the official announcement from Cassandra here and the website for the film has been updated and Jonathans picture added. Filming is due to take place between August 20th and November 6th.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers is in negotiations to join the cast of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, an adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s YA fantasy novel from Constantin Film and Unique Pictures. Rhys Meyers will play Valentine Morgenstern, described as a powerful but insane Shadowhunter looking to make the world pure at any cost
Hope we find out more information soon. Loving all of the positivity from fans of the book from all over the internet about Jonathan being cast as Valentine.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers has joined the cast of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter.
The “The Tudors” star is in talks to play the part of the main villain, Valentine Morgenstern, a “powerful but insane” Shadowhunter who’s known to have extremist views. That’s about as vague as the description gets without delving into spoiler-territory. Should things work out with negotiations, the Irish actor joins Lily Collins as Clary Fray, Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace Wayland, Robert Sheehan as Simon Lewis, Jemima West as Isabelle Lightwood, Kevin Durand as Emil Pangborn, Robert Maillet as Samuel Blackwell, Lena Headey as Jocelyn Fray, Jared Harris as Hodge Starkweather and Godfrey Gao as Magnus Bane who are among the cast of the film
“The Mortal Instruments” is a series of six young adult fantasy books written by Cassandra Clare and published by Simon & Schuster/Margaret K. McElderry Books. In the series’ first book, the #1 New York Times bestseller “City of Bones,” set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray, discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.
There’s a dark sort of broodiness in Jonathan Rhys Meyers that I expect will lend itself nicely to a role like this. The same could definitely be said for the Dracula series he’s set to star in for NBC. Assuming this becomes official, it’s another great bit of casting for the film.
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is targeting an August 23, 2013 release
