Irish actress Victoria Smurfit (Bulletproof Monk) has been cast in the upcoming NBC/Sky Living HD drama series Dracula starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers. The series, which bypassed the traditional pilot stage, takes place in the 1890s and finds Dracula (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) living a double life in London as an American businessman interested in bringing modern science to Victorian society. But his true plan — to exact revenge on those who burdened him centuries ago — is derailed when he falls in love with Mina (Arrow’s Jessica De Gouw), who seems to be a reincarnation of his dead wife.
Smurfit, whose credits include roles in About a Boy, The Beach and Irish drama The Clinic, will play Lady Jayne, a fashion-forward graceful and beautiful woman instantly attracted to Dracula who pursues him.
Victoria said she is really looking forward to working with the assembled cast, including Rhys Meyers. ‘I’ve never worked with Johnny Rhys Meyers before and I’m really looking forward to the experience. He’s hugely talented,’ she said.
Jonny was spotted out at a theatre production with Victoria in London yesterday. The pictures have been added to the gallery thanks to Mary Jane

Joining Jonathan in Dracula (and I am SO excited about this one) is only one of Jonnys closest friends Katie McGrath who will play the character Lucy Westenra in the 10 part series commissioned by NBC and Sky Living. If you watched Merlin you will probably know Katie played Morgana Pendragon in the hit BBC One series which finished earlier this year and you may also remember her cameo appearance in S2 of The Tudors as Bess. Also joining the cast is Nonso Anozie who has starred in Game of Thrones and will be playing the part of R.M. Renfield. More casting updates expected soon!
“Merlin star Katie McGrath and Nonso Anozie (The Grey) have been cast opposite Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the upcoming NBC/Sky Living HD 10-episode drama series Dracula. McGrath will play Lucy Westenra, Aristocratic London’s sexy, social butterfly with a penchant for gossip, flirting and all things glamorous. She’s Mina’s best friend (Jessica de Gouw), who eventually becomes tied up in a web of lies, lust and temptation that challenges their relationship. Anozie will play R.M. Renfield, Alan Grayson’s (aka Dracula) loyal confidante, who’s the keeper of Dracula’s secrets and the stabilizing force that allows his two personas to co-exist.”
