“I was really keen to meet Jonathan Rhys Meyers who plays the drama teacher in the film. ‘He’s very intense’ I was told. So I was a bit apprehensive to meet him. The scene they were filming with him was another straight from my book. He is giving out the parts for the school play, MacBeth. The young actors and the extras sat in a circle in the school auditorium waiting for the star to arrive. In he came, and I have got to admit even in real life, he is drop dead gorgeous. But better than that…he’s really nice! He stepped into the circle, and shook hands with every young person there. Making them all feel at ease. He did so much adlibbing, and after each take he would ask Isobel if the scene had worked for her. What a star.

The director for Dracula Daniel Knauf has just announced on his Twitter account that the show will premiere in the fall of this year, which I believe is September so really not long to wait until we see Jonny back on our screens as our leading man. Filming begins next month. THE COUNTDOWN STARTS NOW!

Bill Dawers who was a journalist for a now defunkt magazine found an interview not long ago which he did with Jonny that had never before been published until now. He has now kindly typed it up for us to read and you can now find it on his blog here

At the time of this interview, Rhys Meyers had just finished playing Steerpike in the mini-series Gormenghast, but it had not aired in the States yet. As I waited, I figured there was at best half a chance that Rhys Meyers would show, but he breezed in a few minutes later, looking pleasantly disheveled and a little wary, wearing a black jacket over a sleeveless t-shirt. Carrying a bag of his own, he likely looked at least as itinerant as I did. In my notes, I later wrote: “Totally genuine. Easy to engage, hard to interview.”

I’ll be the first to admit that the quality of the screen captures is pretty shocking but as soon as it’s eventually released on DVD in the UK rest assured these will be replaced. I tried all sorts of different ways to get the best quality possible but what you can now see in the gallery is actually the best quality.

If you don’t want to know what happens in the film then I’d suggest not looking through the pictures as there is a few spoilers, particularly at the end.
