According to the IMDb page for Panda Eyes it is scheduled to be released in the UK September 20th with Spain getting it shortly before on the 15th. No other countries have been confirmed as of yet but I will keep on checking and will update you all when I find out more.
“I was really keen to meet Jonathan Rhys Meyers who plays the drama teacher in the film. ‘He’s very intense’ I was told. So I was a bit apprehensive to meet him. The scene they were filming with him was another straight from my book. He is giving out the parts for the school play, MacBeth. The young actors and the extras sat in a circle in the school auditorium waiting for the star to arrive. In he came, and I have got to admit even in real life, he is drop dead gorgeous. But better than that…he’s really nice! He stepped into the circle, and shook hands with every young person there. Making them all feel at ease. He did so much adlibbing, and after each take he would ask Isobel if the scene had worked for her. What a star.

“Fox International has started production in Spain on Panda Eyes. Directed by Isabel Coixet (My Life Without Me, The Secret Life Of Words), the film stars Game Of Thrones‘ Sophie Turner, who is making her feature film debut. She’s surrounded by Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Rhys Ifans, Claire Forlani, Gregg Sulkin, Leonor Watling, Ivana Baquero, and Geraldine Chaplin. The film is a psychological thriller with Turner playing a woman haunted by a secret past. It is based on the Cathy MacPhail novel Another Me, and Coixet wrote the script. 20th Century Fox will distribute the Fox International film, a UK/Spain co-production that has Rebekah Gilbertson and Nicole Carmen-Davis producing for UK-based Rainy Day Films and Mariela Besuievsky producing for Spain-based Tornasol Films. Film Agency for Wales, Fox International Productions, the British Film Co. and DSK Ventures are financing the film”
Cathy has not long announced via her Facebook page that Panda Eyes will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next year. I so hope Jonny will be attending!
Over the past few weeks since we found Jonny was shooting I have been talking a lot to Cathy who is the author of the book in which the film is based on. Today she tweeted saying that the embargo surrounding the film has been lifted and we finally got to see a long awaited picture of Jonny on the set. The picture of Jonny and Cathy was taken when Cathy visited the set in Cardiff a few weeks ago. As I’m sure all of you know we were able to raise enough money to be able to buy a star and name it after Jonny. I went down to Cardiff with a couple of friends only to find that Jonny was in fact in London (the place we had just traveled from a few hours earlier!) A lovely member of the production crew could see how disappointed we were and offered to send our gifts direct to Jonny rather than having to take them home and send to Mallow. Obviously I would’ve loved to give the star to him myself but either way it was a small consolation knowing he would receive it. Today Cathy tweeted this to me “@jrhysmeyerscom Your visit was mentioned and your gifts are on their way to Jonny!” So happy to know he will get them soon and hopefully get it before Christmas!
The full sized picture of Jonny and Cathy has been added to the gallery!
Catherine Macphail who wrote the book ‘Another Me’ in which the film is based on confirmed earlier today that Jonathan will be starring alongside Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark, Game of Thrones) and Ivana Baquero. The name of the character Jonathan will play is yet to be confirmed.
Production is due to commence November 25th of this year in Cardiff.
